This a blog about one of my favorite electric guitars, the Mexican made (MIM) Fender Stratocaster (or "Strat" as they're commonly called). While it may not quite have the pedigree of an American made Strat, they cost hundreds less than their American counterparts and thus would make a great choice if you want to save some money. In the end, you'll still get that classic Stratocaster design, sound, comfort, and playability. Of course, Fender makes many great guitars other than the Stratocaster. I've owned a MIM Fender Stratocaster for over twenty-five years and it's the best guitar I've ever owned. Another great thing about MIM Strats, and Fender guitars in general, is that they travel easy. I always take my MIM Strat when I go overseas because it's dependable, it doesn't break as easily as Gibson-style guitars, it stays in tune, and always sounds great! Don't get me wrong...I love Gibson guitars! They play and sound amazing and I've owned a few in my day. However, Gibson headstock designs are their Achilles heel since they tend to split or break clear off at the neck if it falls or is somehow mishandled. I've seen countless pictures of Gibsons with the headstocks broken off from a mere fall off the guitar stand or some mishap while traveling. It's repairable but still heartbreaking and a hassle to deal with. With Fender-style instruments, you very likely won't have that problem. My Fender has taken a few falls with only minor cosmetic damage to show for it.
If you're REALLY on a budget, Fender's budget-friendly Squier line would make an excellent choice. They cost several hundreds less than the US made ones and they play and sound amazingly well for their price point! These make great guitars for beginners and hobbyists. What I love about Fender guitars: They fit comfortably against your body whether you're sitting or standing. Also, they have those classic tones that music legends have depended on for decades.
